Puppy Adoption

We are pro-adoption!

Here are a few reasons to consider adoption over purchasing your puppy.
Puppy Mills have been around for quite a while.  However with recent light being shed on their practices, the mills have become careful about how they market their "goods".  Often, puppies that you buy from newspaper classifieds or online ads are actually puppy mill puppies.  If you are not aware of what life in a puppy mill is like, please google puppy mills... but be warned that the content is graphic.

"Home raised, family loved" puppies are often puppy mills dogs.  They take the dogs to a nice family home to meet their new owners.  Most dog owners have no idea they just purchased a puppy mill dog.  You can verify your purchase by asking to see their vet records for the dogs.  Any puppy that is ready for purchase should have been to a vet for it's first vaccinations already.  Also, you can follow up with that vet to make sure that the documents were not altered.  I know it sounds terrible, but it happens everyday.

The majority of dogs sold in pet shops are products of mills.  Most pet shop owners have no idea where their merchandise comes from.  Puppies from these mills are not only socially inept but typically develop or come with major health issues.  If you consider that they live in feces and have very little to eat or drink it's no surprise.  A puppy who spends it's early days fighting for food and attention is difficult to socialize and train.  You never know what you are getting.  It's hard to resist "rescuing" them, however each puppy purchased will be replaced by another.

Puppies and dogs at shelters have already been examined both socially and physically.  You know their allergies, temperament, and history.  In addition they are vaccinated and come with welcome packages which can include spaying\neutering and training in some cases.  Not to mention a lifetime of gratitude from a dog who has been saved by the kindness of a stranger.
